Regardless of where you find yourself in life, Salem First has a wide variety of small group opportunities designed specifically with you in mind. Whether you are new to the faith or have been walking with the Lord for many years, our goal is to provide you with the resources, support, and encouragement you’ll need to grow ever deeper in your relationship with God.

Listed below you'll find a wide variety of small group options, along with the appropriate contact information for each group. Also feel free to click on the link above (top right-hand corner), if you’d like us to contact you personally.

I'd like to mention that the "Deeper Walk with the Lord" small group Bible studies (described below) have been designed especially for those of you who are newer to our church. These groups are an excellent entry point into our church family. They're a place where you can share your thoughts and questions, and get to know some of our pastors and other members of our church family.

It is our hope that through our small group ministry you will come to experience all the fullness of what it means to belong to the Body of Christ. We pray that these small group opportunities will help you to discover a sense of belonging, of being known and cared for, and that you will discover your spiritual gifts and find ways to use them for the advancement of God’s kingdom. More than anything else, it is our hope that you will come to experience an ever deepening, life-transforming relationship with the Lord.

In Christ,

Young Marrieds "Deeper Walk with the Lord" Small Group

We are a group of young married couples (mostly 25-35 years of age) who meet together on alternating Friday evenings for fellowship and a lively discussion of God's Word. We believe that at the very heart of the Christian faith is the experience of authentic Christian community. It is when we come together in community that the Body of Christ is formed. We have found that it is when we share our lives, concerns, and prayer requests with one another that we grow the most in our relationship with the Lord. You are very welcome to visit our group’s next meeting and see if it might be for you. Children are usually welcome at our gatherings, depending on the host. Sunday Sermon Discussion - Open Forum

November 23rd - "Gratitude... It's in the Attitude"

To post a response, simply -point- at any question below

          and -click- on it.

Note: Allow several minutes or hours or more for the website to update. Please strive for your posts to be respectful and encouraging to other participants.

  • Gratitude

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” - Melody Beattie

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18

“…give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

  • 1. "Praise and gratitude are the deepest expressions of the soul in love with God."

    a) What does this phrase mean to you? Why do you think praise and gratitude are such an important part of the Christian life?

    b) Do we live our lives differently when we’re grateful? Are we less likely to take life for granted? What practical difference does gratitude make in the way we live our lives?

    c) After his house burned down and he lost his job in a week's time, Darrell Fuller realized that he’d been praying to God like He's some kind of ATM in the sky. What do you think about Darrell’s statement: “We should be thanking God for what we have instead of asking Him for more.”

  • 2. Adversity

In his testimony, Mel Wonderly mentioned that God didn’t promise to remove adversity from our lives. What God did promise was to go through it with us. Have you experienced this in your life?

  • 3. Blessings in disguise

In her letter to Pr. Dave, Charysse mentioned that she considers herself blessed to have a stable brain tumor. She is grateful for the journey she is on.

    a) Is there any area in your life that might actually be a blessing, if you could only learn to see your situation with "kingdom eyes"?

    b) What is it that needs to shift in a person’s life, so that what seemed like a curse can be changed into a blessing?

    c) How is it that the light of Christ can bring such indescribable hope to otherwise dark situations?

  • 4. Healthy, wealthy, and comfortable

We tend to assume that we're better off when we’re comfortable, healthy and wealthy, when everything is going our way. But aren’t the times when we are most prosperous also the times when we're least aware of our need for God? In fact, aren't these usually the times when we drift the farthest from Him?

  • 5. Hope

    a) Can you imagine, like Charysse, reaching a point where your hope does not depend on doctors, does not come from Visa or American Express, and does not rely on your ability to provide for yourself? Instead, can you imagine the source of your hope being in Christ alone? That's a pretty radical notion, isn't it?

    b) Many of us live such comfortable lives that we never develop that level of hope and trust. Without enduring hardship, is it possible to know God and rely on Him like that? What do you think?

  • 6. What is the most extraordinary answer to prayer that you have experienced in your life?

  • Scripture mentioned in the sermon and testimonies

    Psalm 103

    1 Thessalonians 5:18

    James 4:13-17

    Philippians 4:7,12
