Special Guest Speaker: Dr. & Mrs. Louie Bustle
Dr. Louie Bustle is the Director for World Mission, Church of the Nazarene. He is married to the former Ellen Phillips. The Bustles received their bachelor’s degrees at Trevecca Nazarene University. Dr. Bustle earned the M.A. degree at Nazarene Theological Seminary and Ellen earned the M.Ed. at Mid-America Nazarene University. In 1987, Dr. Bustle was awarded the Doctor of Divinity degree by Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Louie and Ellen served their first term as missionaries in the Virgin Islands where they started several churches and had exceptional growth. Dr Bustle also started the work on the island country of Antigua and sent the first pastor into the country of Dominica to start the work there. In 1975 they were appointed to start the work of the Church of the Nazarene in the Caribbean country of the Dominican Republic. Dr. Bustle served the Dominican Republic as Mission Director and the first District Superintendent. He was involved in church planting and evangelism, as well as construction projects that included many Work & Witness teams. God gave them a movement of church planting and growth. Ellen worked closely with her husband in mission activities.
In 1982, Dr. and Mrs. Bustle transferred to Peru where they served as Mission Director. In 1983 they moved to Quito, Ecuador, where Dr. Bustle established the first Regional Office for the South American Region. He served as the Regional Director for South America until 1994. In February, 1994, Dr. Bustle was elected by the General Board to serve as the Director of the World Mission Department.
Dr. and Mrs. Bustle have two children and two grandchildren. Their daughter, Beth, a nurse, is married to Rick Guilfoil, Administrative Director of Web Development for the Church of the Nazarene Headquarters. They have two daughters, Amber (2001) and Ashley (2006). The Bustles’ son, John is married to the former Heather Naftzger and is currently doing his Family Practice Residency at Kansas University Medical Center. The Bustles reside in Shawnee, Kansas.
